Lapu-Lapu Readies Crisis Intervention Programs

The Lapu-Lapu City Crisis Management Committee convened on Monday, March 30, 2026, at the Mayor’s Office Conference Room to discuss immediate intervention measures aimed at protecting vulnerable sectors from the socioeconomic effects of the ongoing Middle East crisis. The meeting was led by Mayor Cindi King-Chan, together with ABC President Jasmine “Daday” Chan, City Administrator Atty. Danilo Almendras, department heads, and heads of various city offices. Among the main agenda items tackled were the presentation of the Supplemental Investment Plan, Energy Crisis Planning under the PPAs, and other urgent matters related to the city’s response efforts. During the meeting, officials discussed a lineup of immediate crisis intervention programs that will be implemented for up to six months, with possible extension depending on the persistence of the situation and the availability of funds. These priority programs include the OFW Crisis Assistance and Reintegration Program, Emergency Livelihood and Cash-for-Work Program, Rice Buffer and Subsidized Rice Program, Fuel Assistance Program for the transport sector, and the Urban Gardening and Household Food Production Program. City officials said the intervention package aims to shield vulnerable households, overseas Filipino workers, transport workers, and small businesses from the possible economic impact of the Middle East crisis, particularly on fuel prices, food supply, and employment. Mayor Cindi emphasized the need for proactive and people-centered measures to ensure that affected Oponganons receive timely support should the crisis worsen in the coming months. "At the center of our efforts remains one clear priority... the welfare of every Oponganon family,” the mayor said.
